The first of a batch of 20 X’Trapolis MEGA (metric gauge) commuter trains for the PRASA rolling stock project has arrived in South Africa from Brazil on schedule.

We are offering bursaries for students studying at universities, universities of technology or technical vocational education and training (TVET) institutions in 2016.

The closing date for applications is 30 November, 2015.

Gibela will replace South Africa’s outdated rolling stock and deliver 600 passenger trains into the South African rail network over the next 10 years.

South Africa’s 40-odd year gap when it comes to train-building technology is about to close as the Gibela Rail Transport Consortium (Gibela) gears up to start the construction of its R1 billion, 85 000m² factory complex at in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng.

Thursday, March 12, Alberton, Johannesburg - Today, new ground will be broken for South African railway industry equipment manufacturers, large and small. 

The Gibela Rail Transport Consortium RF (Pty) Ltd will manufacture and deliver 600 passenger trains to the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa over the next 10 years.
