Rolling stock project

Gibela has been awarded the rolling stock contract to build and deliver 600 trains made up of 3,600 coaches to South Africa's metro rail networks. To this end, a world-class manufacturing and training facility will be established in Gauteng.

Alongside the rolling stock contract, Gibela will also supply spare parts and provide maintenance and technical support on the coaches over a period spanning 19 years. The Technical Support and Spares Supply Agreement will have a footprint in 5 geographically separate fleets – South & North Gauteng, Cape Town, Durban and the Eastern Cape. This scope of work will enable the customer to achieve critical thresholds in its operation and maintenance as it transitions from the old fleet into the new one.

"The three major dimensions of the PRASA project are: delivering modern trains, developing an efficient local industrial plant and supporting South Africa's economic and social development." Marc Granger, CEO of Gibela
