Gibela hosts info-sharing day for local entrepreneurs

In July 2018, Gibela hosted a local business orientation day to show entrepreneurs near our factory how we operate and to help them understand how they can work with us. More than 350 guests attended the day, where they learnt how we source our suppliers and were provided with information on our economic development and supplier development programmes.

Guests were also given the chance to see – up close and in detail – the high-tech X’Trapolis Mega commuter trains we are building. We will be building 580 of these trains for PRASA at our Dunnottar premises over the next 10 years.

Reflecting on the day, Gibela’s Economic Development Director, Dr Buyiswa Mncono-Liwani, said: “It was an invaluable opportunity for us to gain greater insights into what capacity there is for businesses on our doorstep to supply some of our needs, and to benefit from the development initiatives we have in place.”

Gibela also discussed a simple, six-step plan that has been put in place to make it easier for local suppliers to be part of our supply chain. In response to this, we received several requests for information – the first step in the process – from local entrepreneurs, and our supplier team is already reviewing these applications.
